Standard Courses
Preceding each Standard Course is an Activity Day session that provides an introduction for anyone interested in attending the course.
The Activity Day includes a gentle bushwalk that allows the participant to get to know the Wilderness Program facilitators and other people in the group. Activity Days are run two or three days prior to the course and are free of charge.
During the Standard Course, participants focus on setting a goal of personal relevance to work on during the six-day journey in the wilderness. The activities and environment challenge participants to actively work towards goal realisation and in so doing provide growth in self esteem, confidence, communication skills and emotional development. This is achieved through the use of abseiling, kayaking and bushwalking activities presented within the framework of supportive group dynamics.
Whilst these activities are great fun, they can be highly challenging on both physical and emotional terms. The Standard Course cost is $100.
Follow-Up Courses
Once a participant has returned home from a Standard Course, the Wilderness Program keeps in touch, firstly by sending out a written report and secondly through an invitation to attend one or more of our Follow-Up Courses. Follow-Up courses offer continued focus on new personal goals and differ slightly in structure from the Standard Course in that they usually concentrate on only one outdoor focus area. Three different courses presently operate and their cost is $100 per person.
The Underground Challenge Course: This four day caving follow-up course invites the participant into an underground world in the Mole Creek area that is both testing and inspirational.
Mountain Challenge Course: This four day journey involves abseiling and bushwalking along the Wellington Range. A tough journey, in spite of its relative proximity to Hobart.
Snow Camp Course: This is a demanding six-day round trip involving walking and camping in snow environments. The journey begins in the Mersey Valley and traverses the Walls of Jerusalem and returns to Lake Rowallan.
